Hydrotherapy Sessions at the Hydrotherapy Pool in Downs View School (Warren Road, Woodingdean, E. Sussex, BN2 6BB )

Pool Information

• The pool is a modern purpose built sunken pool, measuring 12 metres long by 6 metres wide and is located within the school building.
• At the shallow end the pool is 0.9 metres deep and it slopes gradually to a depth of 1.4 metres at the deep end.
• The pool is a Hydrotherapy pool with an operating water temperature between 92 and 94 degrees Fahrenheit, which is very warm compared to normal swimming pools.
• There is walking access around the outer perimeter of the whole pool, and access to the water is by means of a gradually sloping ramp with an adjacent handrail.
• There is a handrail around the inside perimeter of the whole pool.
• There are separate male and female changing rooms, each of which has its own showers and toilets, and the changing areas lead directly out into the pool area.

Equipment

• The Brighton AS Group has its own buoyancy aids and floats for general use.
• You should bring your own towel and swimming costume.

Pool Availability

The pool is not available during the school’s holidays, and so it will not be possible to have hydrotherapy sessions every fortnight throughout the whole year, so check the schedule of meetings to make sure you know when the hydrotherapy sessions are taking place. In addition there may be occasions, when for technical reasons, at short notice, the pool has to be closed. In such cases, we will notify members of such a closure and we will have a physiotherapy session in the gymnasium at Brighton General Hospital that Thursday evening instead.

Location of the School

Downs View School is not easily visible from the main road as it is located about 200 metres down a driveway off Warren Road. In Warren Road, the entrance to the driveway leading to the school is marked with a signpost to ‘Downs View School’, and is approximately 25 metres from the entrance to the Sussex Nuffield Hospital entrance in Warren Road. IMPORTANT !! Access to the School Building and the Pool

The school is not a public building, and so the pool entrance doors are kept locked at all times. Consequently, the pool doors will not be opened for the Brighton AS Group until just before 6.30 p.m. and we must all be out of the school building by 8.00 p.m. So, allowing 15 minutes to get changed and sorted out before and after the session, we should have approximately one hour actually in the water.
